The Dick Cameron Window

The Dick Cameron Window

author:  Leah West

One of our beautiful windows was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. George William Cameron in memory of their son, Frank Leslie (Dick) Cameron - born 1878.

The Cameron families were early members of the church.  Dick, the youngest of four children, was nineteen at the time of his acute illness and death.  His sisters, Kate (Mrs. M. F. Brackney), Daisy (Mrs. W. H. Sims), and Ona (Mrs. Henry Warden) were devoted members of the congregation for many years.

An interesting story is told about his mother.  When Missouri Cameron applied for the Post Office appointment, it was assumed from the name that she was a man.  As a result, Mrs. Cameron became McKinney’s only female Postmaster.

The memorial window has a special feature of lilies in its design.  Flowers are symbolic of the beauty of God and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The Easter lily signifies humility and purity.
